Press Release
June 30, 2020
Richmond, BC – For the first time in its over 90-year history, members of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce elected their new board of directors at a fully virtual event. On Tuesday evening, June 30th, members gathered in front of their computer screens to be updated on financials, take part in chamber business, and vote on the new board of directors at a virtual annual general meeting. Brian Corcoran was unanimously confirmed as the 2020/2021 Chair of the board.
Corcoran, a Partner at PLLR Lawyers, has a long history of active volunteer work for the organization. Beginning in 2008, Corcoran served as a judge for the chamber’s popular Business Excellence Awards (still his favourite event) and he was first elected to the Chamber’s board in 2014.
This Canada Day, how many of us can truly say we’ve seen enough of our country? Brian Corcoran can. He’s lived in six provinces and visited all ten and one territory. Coming out west in 2005, Corcoran thinks there’s something special about Richmond. He shares, “Richmond’s diversity has always amazed me. Not only does it lead to so much amazing food but it generates so many different and interesting perspectives that can only be present in such a diverse community.”
Taking on a new leadership role in 2020 presents unique challenges, but Corcoran sees the chamber rising to meet them. “Our ability to guide our members through an incredibly challenging time is critical,” he says. “We must play an important role in not just their survival but hopefully their growth in the ‘new normal’.”
Thanking his predecessor, Fan Chun, Brian says, “Fan has provided the deft and calming leadership the Chamber needed during these difficult times. He has been the steady hand guiding the ship and we should all be very grateful for his service.”
Chun will continue to sit on the board in the position of immediate past chair.
