Richmond Chamber of Commerce Responds To March 4th Tariffs
Press Release
March 4th, 2025
RICHMOND, BC – The Richmond Chamber of Commerce is deeply concerned about the newly announced tariffs taking effect immediately, which will place additional cost burdens on businesses and consumers alike.
“The Richmond business community depends on stable, predictable trade relationships to drive economic growth and create jobs. The long period of uncertainty caused by the threat of these tariffs, and their realization create higher costs at a time when businesses are still working to recover from ongoing economic challenges on both sides of the border,” said Shaena Furlong, President & CEO of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
The Richmond Chamber joins business leaders across the country in urging the federal government to work toward solutions that support a competitive business environment. Open trade and fair market access are critical for Richmond’s economic resilience and for maintaining strong relationships with key international partners.
“Businesses of all sizes in Richmond rely on global trade to sustain operations. Increased costs due to tariffs will inevitably be passed down to consumers, impacting affordability and economic stability,” Furlong added. “We call on policymakers to engage in dialogue with the business community to find solutions that minimize harm while promoting economic growth.”
The Richmond Chamber of Commerce remains committed to advocating for policies that foster a strong, dynamic, and competitive economy. We will continue to work with our members and government stakeholders to ensure Richmond businesses and workers have the support they need to thrive.
